Michelle Finch

Michelle Finch believes in the power of a practice rooted deeply in the fundamentals & mindfulness. She genuinely embraces the notion that an open heart & mind coupled with the alignment of body & breath can be profoundly healing to the mind, body & spirit of every yoga practitioner. Whether attending her specialty Yin yoga classes or the balancing Yang (Slow Flow), you will find her classes to be powerful & moving for the entirety of your being. Michelle’s light hearted, yet nurturing approach to teaching is guaranteed to elevate your spirit and place a lasting smile on your face. Michelle was first introduced to the practice of yoga in 2003 and although it took eight years for these teachings to truly sink in for her, looking back she can see this foundation, laid in her early 20’s, provided the stepping off point for her to realize the multitude of benefits yoga offers, both on & off the mat. Having personally felt its healing qualities, the rounded practice of yoga has aided Michelle in turning toward a healthier lifestyle, relieving her dis-ease of anxiety & depression, as well as overcoming a personal battle with addiction. After nearly 10 years in corporate human resources, she found herself being called away from the business world & in 2012 made the decision to re-dedicate her life to the path of yoga & has not looked back. Although Michelle is an ERYT-200 RYT-500 certified teacher, she believes that one should always seek further wisdom from the teachers that have come before her. Therefore, following the path of continued learning, she is humbled to be currently studying with the Insight Yoga Institute under the loving guidance of Sarah & Ty Powers. On top of her yogic studies, she is also currently enrolled in the highly acclaimed Transformative Leadership MA program with the prestigious California Institute of Integral Studies. When not teaching, Michelle spends her time outdoors (cycling, hiking, kayaking, etc.), traveling, enjoying time with her friends/family & sharing the beautiful journey of life with her husband, DJ.

Stephanie Martinez

Stephanie attended her first yoga class in 2009. She always used exercise as a way of dealing with the stresses of college and work life, and she quickly fell in love with yoga. Yoga allowed her to deal with anxiety, while gaining breath awareness and strengthening her body. Stephanie completed her 200 hour teacher training in August 2014 at Invoke Studio under Ahna Hoke and Chuck Crosby. Stephanie teaches vinyasa classes that focus on connecting the breath with each movement. Stephanie believes that yoga should be approached with lightheartedness and offers classes that will calm the mind and open the heart.

Cheryl Milton

Cheryl began her Yoga practice in 2001, after the birth of her first child Addison. At the time yoga was introduced to Cheryl she had just left a high-paced sales job to become a full time mom and was entering her seventh year teaching group fitness. Cheryl received her yoga training in Coastal Virginia. She trained with a focus in the tradition of the Hot Yoga Series and Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Cheryl was the Director and Lead Teacher for the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program for Zen Hot Yoga Studio Virginia Beach, as well as the Founder and Lead Teacher for Passion Yoga School’s 2014 Yoga Teacher Training Program. She now leads Invoke's Yoga Alliance Certified 100 & 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program at Invoke Wellness Center. Cheryl draws inspiration to teach and practice from her busy daily life: approaching her mat being open to explore, accept, reaffirm her passion for life and cultivate peace. 

Lindsey Springer

Lindsey began doing Mat Pilates as a regular way to break up her 9-5 work day in 2007. Noticing a change in her energy level and body within a matter of weeks, she was forever hooked on Pilates from that point on. She started teaching in 2008 and soon left the corporate world altogether to pursue a challenging career in fitness instruction, including Barre, Pilates Equipment and Mat Pilates.
 
Trained through Balanced Bodies, she learned that Pilates is for every body type. She safely challenges all her clients' to meet their goals and increase their flexibility, strength and balance. Her passion for Pilates inspired her to further her education and returned to college to study kinesiology, the study of body mechanics. She dreams of one day traveling the world to share her knowledge of Pilates and kinesiology, and to train other aspiring Pilates instructors.

Yin yoga is accessible to anyone, including beginners. Poses, held between 3 and 5 minutes, are done mostly on the floor and target the deep connective tissue concentrated in the major joints of the body. Yin yoga helps rejuvenate connective tissues, improve circulation, and bring joints back to their natural range of motion.

The longer duration within each pose provides the opportunity to slow down and bring awareness to the current capabilities of our bodies. Through mindfulness practices, we are able to focus inward more clearly and open ourselves to fully embody the present moment.

Yin is a wonderful compliment practice to our more vigorous activities such as vinyasa, running, cycling or other athletic pursuits. Maintaining poses for several minutes can have an intense effect on the tight, sore and sometimes inflamed tissues that endurance athletes often experience.

Please note: Yin is NOT restorative yoga. Due to the long, slow, deep holds of the Yin poses, this practice can be intense. Please discuss any injuries you have with your instructor prior to class.
